BlueLayer and MSCI collaborate to connect carbon credit supply with institutional buyers

BlueLayer and MSCI are collaborating to enhance how carbon projects are discovered, evaluated, and financed.

Through this collaboration BlueLayer’s operating system for project developers will integrate with MSCI Carbon Markets’ Indicative Quotes, a subscriber-only discovery tool that helps buyers identify projects that fit their procurement needs across the carbon market and connect with the relevant suppliers.

Together, BlueLayer and MSCI seek to strengthen the data infrastructure that underpins a more efficient and transparent carbon market.

Empowering credit buyers with better data

As carbon markets mature, buyers and investors increasingly rely on robust data, pricing signals, and market context to guide procurement and financing decisions. MSCI Carbon Markets provides comprehensive analytics across projects, transactions, prices, and forecasts, serving a global client base that includes banks, trading desks, institutional investors, airlines, and corporates.

By adding supply data from BlueLayer to Indicative Quotes, MSCI's subscribers can discover a broader set of projects, alongside market data and pricing benchmarks that ultimately support better purchasing decisions. Interested buyers can request to connect directly with suppliers through the MSCI platform, supporting efficient deal origination.

Operational efficiency without added complexity

By sharing supply data with MSCI, project developers are able to manage all shared information directly through BlueLayer, avoiding the need to maintain parallel systems or respond to fragmented data requests. Supply data is standardized and delivered through an API integration, while inquiries from MSCI subscribers can be tracked alongside interest originating from other direct buyer connections or intermediaries.

Since MSCI does not broker transactions or take commissions, this integration allows developers to maintain direct relationships with buyers and preserve flexibility across their broader sales strategies. Additionally, MSCI's broad set of institutional subscribers, includes buyers seeking multi-year offtake agreements or pre-issuance opportunities, which can deliver much needed financing to projects earlier in their development.

Supporting a more transparent and investable carbon market

The integration of BlueLayer’s operating system with MSCI’s investor-grade analytics and pricing data, is desgined to help align supply with demand using consistent, high-quality information.

The result is intended to support a more transparent and efficient market, where buyers can plan with confidence and developers can reach the right counterparties in a timely manner.
