How Rewind scales science-first carbon removal with BlueLayer’s dMRV platform

How Rewind scales science-first carbon removal with BlueLayer’s dMRV platform
About Rewind

Rewind Earth is advancing a science-driven carbon removal solution that integrates biomass preservation into mine closure and restoration. By sustainably sourcing plant biomass and storing it in oxygen-free underground mine chambers, Rewind permanently removes atmospheric carbon while helping mining companies improve site stability and environmental performance.

Built around a flagship project in a deep underground mine in Georgia, Rewind’s approach delivers multiple co-benefits: mitigating acid mine drainage, reducing land subsidence risk, managing methane emissions, and transforming overlooked mining sites into long-term climate assets.

The model combines scientific validation, energy-efficient operations, and rigorous measurement to ensure that carbon removal is both durable and verifiable.

The challenge: scaling carbon removal with confidence

As their project grew, Rewind faced a critical challenge: how to scale operations while ensuring that every kilogram of biomass injected is fully accounted for, audited, and aligned with verification standards.

Without a unified dMRV platform, this diversity of inputs can quickly lead to fragmented records, manual reconciliation, and verification risk. Validating 1000-year removed carbon with registries such as Isometric require the highest degree of accuracy, traceability, and transparency.

The solution: digital MRV

Measure & Monitor

Rewind’s technology collects a wide range of data, spanning biomass sourcing, transport, material characteristics, site conditions, and storage stability. Comprehensive transparency is a shared value of our companies and Rewind's technology includes data from SCADA, PLC, or other sensor inputs, laboratory analyses such as moisture and carbon fraction measurements, GPS logs, and transport records. BlueLayer ensures this data is received and recorded seamlessly, reliably and at scale, supporting all data types and formats collected by Rewind.

Every entry is validated automatically, timestamped, and fully traceable, and workflows are standardized across diverse biomass types and multiple locations. As a result, Rewind’s operational excellence is documented with the level of detail required for rigorous, audit-ready verification.

Quantify

Once operational data is captured, BlueLayer transforms it into methodology-aligned carbon removal metrics. Rewind’s raw inputs such as biomass mass, moisture, and composition are processed through automated quantification pipelines that mirror the realities of their engineering workflows. The platform performs mass-balance and carbon-content calculations with full transparency, ensuring that every number is traceable and defensible for audits and verification.

By automating these calculations and linking them directly to the operational data, Rewind reduces the risk of human error, gains real-time insight into storage performance and permanence, and accelerates verification cycles, all while maintaining confidence in the scientific rigour of their results.

Report

BlueLayer enables Rewind to communicate its carbon removal outcomes clearly and credibly. The platform organizes Rewind's data into structured, verification-ready reporting packages, while also providing customer-facing dashboards that connect and relate operational data to credit inventory and delivery. This allows Rewind to demonstrate traceability, permanence, and performance in a way that is easily understood by verifiers, registries, buyers, and other stakeholders.

The result: operational dMRV that scales with the science

By adopting BlueLayer’s dMRV platform, Rewind can now focus on expanding and scaling its operations, collecting more data that rely on a structured and durable data pipeline. All biomass and injection data now flows into a single source of truth, captured in real time from the field with photos, documents, and GPS context.

Rewind and BlueLayer's partnership has created clear traceability across the entire supply chain, injection process, and biomass analysis, while drastically reducing the need for manual reconciliation and reporting. Every piece of operational data is now ready for audits, verification partners, and crediting frameworks. Most importantly, this digital backbone allows Rewind to focus on scaling carbon removal efficiently, without compromising on data quality or scientific credibility.

Why BlueLayer

Rewind chose BlueLayer not only for the software, but also because they discovered a team that they could rely on daily, as they scale a novel removal pathway. They needed a partner who understood the engineering complexity of biomass logistics and storage, but also one who could move fast, iterate, and build what the industry doesn’t yet know it needs.

BlueLayer combines deep domain expertise in carbon removal and digital MRV with strong software product development capabilities. Instead of offering a one-size-fits-all solution, the team co-designed workflows, ingestion methods, and quantification pipelines around Rewind’s operational reality; the data they generate, the science they rely on, and the scale they’re moving towards.

We talked to all of the solutions that are out there and found BlueLayer to be the one that is most comprehensive and also the one that is most agile. We want to send everything to our dMRV platform and have it stored properly and scale with the amount of data - because ultimately all that backs a carbon credit is the data behind it.

Looking Ahead

Rewind and BlueLayer will continue expanding monitoring, quantification, and reporting capabilities as Rewind scales across new regions, biomass types, and storage environments. Together, they are building the digital infrastructure that will support Rewind’s journey toward multi-million-ton, gigaton-scale carbon removal.

Rewind Earth’s carbon removal happens in mines, yards, trucks, and labs; not behind desks. BlueLayer is the dMRV infrastructure designed for exactly that reality.
